Songs inspired by
The stories that shape your life
Aptly-named, Citizen Of The World have developed a sound that finds itself untethered and free. Formed by singer-songwriter Gerrit Gmel in his hometown of Lausanne, Switzerland, the now five-piece band are based in the frontman's adopted home of Sydney. The new formation brings sax, guitar, keyboard, drums and bass together to take you on a journey from soulful acoustic melodies to foot thumping beats best described by one music blog Timber and Steel as “infectious and incredibly danceable.”
Sincere and heartfelt, Citizen Of The World evolved from a more folk-based sound to fully-fledged modern indie. Their catalogue has racked up well over 1 million streams, with their song “Setting Out” short-listed in the prestigious Vanda & Young Songwriting Competition and featuring in Australian TV drama “Love Me”. The band has found international recognition with a tour of India and a feature of the band in Chinese blockbuster film “The Rise of a Tomboy”.
The band confidently balance the right amount of cheer and moodiness, creating a sound that is beautifully shaded and multidimensional. As a live act, Citizen Of The World are capable of stripping their songs back to intimate acoustic versions, or delivering them in full flight. Whatever the line-up, the band always seeks to form a genuine bond with their audience through shared values and stories suffused with emotion.
I kinda just want to leave it at that…
Love & Grace is out today and I love everything about it (if I may say so myself). it’s a song, a beautiful ballad, but also a life philosophy and a goal to work towards (maybe even a goal that is best never to fully achieve so that one gets to enjoy the journey forever…?). I hope you’ll feel something!
Much love
